Phenadren Review with Positives and Negatives

phenadren ReviewPhenadren is a weight loss supplement that appears to be produced somewhere in the USA by a company called EvoChem. According to the EvoChem website the company is on a mission to produce “quality, cutting edge, nutritional supplements”.

Their experience in this field is unknown, but they claim Phenadren was their first product and say it was released in 2010. It is also interesting to note that, at the time of this review (2016), the Phenadren sales page stated the product was released “over 3 years ago”.

Five years would be a slightly more impressive period of time, and accurate as well. This suggests the website has not been updated for a number of years.

Positives: Does contain some good ingredients

Negatives: In our opinion the marketing material provides a lot of waffle and this is also reflected in the product

What is Phenadren and How Does it Work?

Products that encourage thermogenesis cause the internal body temperature to rise and this, in turn, increases the natural calorie burning process and makes it more likely that the body will begin to burn its stores of fat for extra energy. This can be achieved in a number of ways, but diet pill manufacturers often resort to the use of stimulants.

Stimulants such as caffeine (included in the formulation) can provide calorie-free energy, and this can be good for preventing lethargy setting-in as a result of the dieting process, but some people do not tolerate stimulants well.

Key Ingredients

Two Phenadren capsules provide:

  • Niacin (Vitamin B3) –   15mg
  • Vitamin B6 –   20mg
  • Folate (Vitamin B9) –   400mcg
  • Vitamin B12 –   15mg
  • Calcium –   15mg
  • Chromium –   1000mcg

B vitamins are common inclusions in dietary supplements because they support a healthy metabolism. Research carried out in the US suggests calcium may have the ability to discourage the growth of new fat cells, and chromium is often used to balance blood sugar levels.

The rest of the ingredients are included in a proprietary blend (1.5g) that is designed to support weight loss in six stages, but EvoChem fails to explain what the stages are or to include inclusion rates.

  • Stage 1: Coleus Forskohlii, Raspberry Ketone, Cayenne, Guggul Lipids, Hordenine, Kelp.
  • Stage 2: Phenylethylamine HCI, DMAE Bitartrate.
  • Stage 3: Caffeine Anhydrous USP, Citrus Aurantium, White Willow Bark Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract, D-Glucuronolactone, Yohimbine HCI.
  • Stage 4: Hoodia Gordonii, Fucoxanthin.
  • Stage 5: Dandelion Root, Juniper Berry, Uva Ursi, Buchu Leaf.
  • Stage 6: Calcium Carbonate, Niacin, Methylsulfonylmethane.

Looking at the ingredients, Stage 1 appears to be fat burning. Raspberry ketone and cayenne stand out as being the two most promising ingredients, and they both have a good reputation of getting results, so it’s a pity there is no way of knowing if the quantities involved are sufficient.

Stage 2 is more difficult to define because phenylethylamine is a nootropic ingredient, that may enhance the mood, and DMAE Bitrartrate is believed to have anti-aging abilities.

Many of the Stage 3 ingredients (caffeine, citrus aurantium, yohimbine) are stimulants that may increase energy expenditure, and green tea is a proven fat burner.

There are only two Stage 4 ingredients. Hoodia is a generally used as an appetite suppressant and fucoxanthin is an algae extract that reduces fat mass.

The Stage 5 ingredients are all diuretics, so there is a good chance they may help reduce body weight, but any weight lost will be water and it will return as soon as supplementation is ceased.

Stage 6 provides a further dose of calcium, some more niacin, and a plant extract called methylsulfonylmethane that may be useful for easing muscle cramps and other aches and pains.

Side Effects & Health Issues

EvoChem neglect to say if side effects are likely to be an issue, but the capsules are manufactured in a facility that process eggs, milk, shellfish, wheat, soy, tree nuts, and peanuts. So people who are allergic to any of these may have problems, as will anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients used in the formulation. Anyone who does not respond well to stimulants, like caffeine or yohimbine, may want to give the pills a wide berth as well. The fact that the blend contains diuretics may also be a problem because it will likely result in an increased need to urinate.

Phenadren is unlikely to be suitable for pregnant or nursing mothers. People who have existing health problems should check with their doctor before taking any brand of supplement. The same advice applies to people who are taking medication.

Purchasing Options & Considerations

If you happen to walk into your local health food store and see a bottle of Phenadren on the shelf it will be easy enough to buy. Failing this you may have some difficulty. It is not possible to buy Phenadren via the manufacturer’s website and although the site provides a store locating tool that returns results that suggest the product is available in stores all over the USA, only the addresses are provided. The names of the stores are not and we were unable to find any online suppliers. We also drew a blank on the price of the product, but the “supplement facts” provided by the manufacturer states each bottle contains 60 capsules and a dose is two capsules. However, the lack of information about the way the product should be used makes it impossible to say how long a bottle should last. If only one dose is required a day, and this seems likely, a bottle should be good for a month, but if three doses are required per day a bottle will only last 10 days.

Guarantee

EvoChem does not provide customers with a money back guarantee.

The Bottom Line

We do not see any logic in the way the ingredients in the blend have been grouped into “stages” but, on the whole, the formulation could have the potential to improve weight loss if the quantities involved are in the right proportions. There is no way of knowing that though, and the lack of customer feedback means we are unable to see how well Phenadren has performed for past customers. Further evaluation is pointless because most people will probably be unable to source a supplier.

Recommended Alternative – Our Recommendation

PhenQ multi benefit diet pillWe rate PhenQ as the top diet pill in this genre – if you are looking for a fat burner, appetite suppressant then PhenQ pretty much trumps all others. PhenQ can also act as a fat blocker and prevents a portion of dietary fat from being digested and subsequently appearing in places you don’t want it to.
