Semtex Review, The Diet Pill By Jodie Marsh

Last updated on January 17th, 2018

semtex-diet-pillsSemtex is a dietary supplement produced in the UK by JST Jodie. The company is fronted by the media personality, entrepreneur, and one time lad’s mag favorite, Jodie Marsh. The company produces several nutritional supplements, but Semtex is usually regarded as their flagship product.

The product is marketed as a fat burner that “supports your exercise and workout routines” and is designed to be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and an exercise routine.

Semtex is suitable for use by both sexes, but the manufacturers state it is not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age. The company website seems to be the main source of supply.

Claims: To be a fat burner that can support your diet and exercise regime

Positives: There are one or two good ingredients contained in the formula. Ms Marsh certainly practises what she preaches.

Negatives: very stimulant based, lots of hype surrounding it but in fairness this applies to a majority of the industry.

What Is Semtex and How Does it Work

Semtex fat burner real reviewSemtex comes in capsule form. The recommended dose is two capsules a day, but the recommended usage varies. On training days both capsules are taken together, 30 – 45 minutes before a workout; but on non-training days the first capsule is taken in the morning and the second capsule four to six hours later. After eight to twelve weeks of use supplementation should be stopped for one to two weeks.

The product contains a variety of natural ingredients, many of which have a strong reputation for assisting weight loss. It also contains a possibly over-generous amount of stimulants that should help boost performance during training sessions, but may also kick start side effects for people who cannot tolerate such potent stimulation.

Key Ingredients

  • Brazilian Cocoa Extract:  A common ingredient in weight loss supplements because it is believed to raise serotonin levels and create a happier state of mind that will—in theory—reduce the craving for food, but conclusive proof of this is lacking.
  • Capsicum:  Tried and tested, capsicum is known to inhibit the growth of new fat cells, while also enabling the body to burn of calories at up to 12 times the normal speed.
  • Caffeine:  A known stimulant that should help the user get that little bit more from their workout, but high doses of caffeine can lead to unpleasant side effects.
  • Guarana:  A caffeine-rich stimulant, that should power up any workout or exercise session, but guarana has not been proven to assist weight loss.
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract:  High in antioxidants, and a further source of caffeine, but any claims that green tea can induce weight loss have not been substantiated.
  • L-Carnitine:  A powerful antioxidant that offers many health benefits, but clinical evidence fails to back up any claims that L-Carnitine can assist weight loss.
  • Vitamin B3:  B-vitamins make regular appearances on the labels of weight loss supplements, but independent testing fails to provide any connection between B-vitamins and weight loss.

Media Focus

Calling a weight loss supplement after an explosive is a clever marketing ploy because it suggests using the product can provide explosive results, but the choice of branding appears to have blown up in Jodie’s face because the name has offended many people.

The Sun newspaper ran a particularly scathing article that drew attention to the feelings of disgust felt by the relatives of IRA victims, along with a demand that the pills be discontinued. Although we dont want to comment too much on this surely Ms Marsh is free to call her product whatever she pleases.

Not everyone is so disgusted. A page on the JST Jodie website shows pictures of several British celebrities posing with items from the JST Jodie product range. Former Big Brother star, Brian Dowling, seems very happy with the product in his hand, while Daniella Westbrook (Eastenders) appears to be playing peek-a-boo behind a very large tub of supplement, but their willingness to share camera space with the products seems to be their only endorsement because the page is strangely devoid of text.

Success Stories

Another page on the website shows before and after pictures from satisfied customers. The pictures bear the subjects name along with the claimed weight loss. Charlotte lost 2% body fat and Amber became 2 stone lighter, but once again the pictures have no accompanying text, and no information is presented to state how long it took to attain the claimed results. Independent reviews of the product are in short supply – this though may be due to the fact that the product is relatively new.

Semtex Possible Side Effects

According to the product website, Semtex may cause headaches and lightheadedness. No other side effects are mentioned, but the product contains high levels of caffeine, so it is likely some users may experience caffeine-related side effects. These might include:

  • Mood swings
  • The jitters
  • Restlessness
  • Sleeplessness
  • Heart palpitations

The website also warns pregnant or lactating women to consult their GP before use. The same advice is offered to those who are on medication or due to undergo surgery.

The Bottom Line – Is It Recommended

This product contains high levels of stimulants, but the manufacturers are admirably open about possible side effects. They also adopt a sensible attitude by recommending GP approval before use.

Independent reviews are lacking, but Semtex appears to be a quality product, and some of the ingredients may offer weight loss benefits, but many alternative products can provide the same—or better—results with less risk of side effects.  Semtex is probably a good match for sports and fitness enthusiasts, who require extra stimulation so that they can work that bit harder, but those who only require a product that can support their weight loss needs are advised to look elsewhere.
