Xenadrine Fat Burner – used by Phaedra Parks and Kim Zolciak

Last updated on January 17th, 2018

Xenadrine UKXenadrine is a weight loss supplement presently produced in the US by Iovate Health Sciences International. The product has somewhat of a checkered history. Both the present brand name owners and the previous owners have been fined millions of dollars due to false marketing claims.

The Xenadrine website gets top marks for its sleek, professional look, and seems to contain a lot of supportive information, but given the company’s reputation it’s hard to say how much of it is accurate. The site is also notable for its lack of contact information and it fails to provide any information about the manufacturers. The name Innovate Health Sciences can only be unearthed by scrutinizing the site’s privacy policy and terms and conditions page.

Positives: Nice looking website, one or two good ingredients

Negatives: Has allegedly fallen foul of the Federal Trade Commission. Others products preferred

Advertised Benefits

  • Xenadrine official websiteExtreme energy
  • Supports increased metabolism
  • 7 X more weight loss than dieting alone

That last statement is particularly misleading because an examination of the small print reveals the claim refers to four of the ingredients (frauenmantle, wild olive, cormino, horsemint), which supposedly provided ‘7 X more weight loss’ in a clinical study.

Key Ingredients

Each (2 capsule) serving provides Vitamin C (7mg) and Calcium (70mg), but inclusion rates are not available for the rest of the ingredients because they are incorporated into a proprietary blend.

Xenadrine  Blend (488 mg)

  • Caffeine Anhydrous
  • L-Theanine
  • Yohimbe Bark Extract
  • L-Carnitine
  • White Willow Bark Extract
  • Frauenmantle Leaf Extract
  • Wild Olive Leaf Extract
  • Cormino Extract
  • Horsemint Leaf Extract

Two capsules provide 200mg of caffeine. That’s equivalent to a good strong cup of instant coffee and will probably provide a boost of energy accompanied by some degree of appetite suppression. Yohimbe may protect against muscle loss and l-theanine is a mood enhancer.

Weight loss is supposedly achieved mainly due to the inclusion of frauenmantle, wild olive, cormino, and horsemint. Recent tests indicate olive leaf may possess fat burning qualities, but further testing is required and it is interesting to note these same four ingredients are also included in at least two of Iovate Health’s other brands (Hydroxycut & Bob Harper’s Smart Weight Loss). The various sales pages appear to be the only online sources that mention the study.

Usage Instructions

Should be used in conjunction with a calorie-controlled diet and the manufacturer recommends a supplementation period of 8 to 12 weeks. Capsules should never be taken within 5 hours of bedtime and supplementation begins at a reduced dosage.

Days 1 to 3: One capsule should be taken with a glass of water 30 minutes before each of the three meals of the day.

Day 4 and beyond:  Two capsules should be taken with a glass of water 30 minutes before each of the three meals of the day.

[warning]*6 capsules should never be exceeded in any 24 hour period.[/warning]

Media Focus

Reality TV star Kim Zolciak used it to help get her formidable curves back in shape after she gave birth to twins and was so impressed she became the Xenadrine brand ambassador.

Customer Feedback

The official website contains a lot of positive testimonials.

An average statement reads:

[plain]”This product really helped me out. I tried eating healthy but it wasn’t enough. When I added this in I was able to drop some extra weight. Very happy with the results.”[/plain]

The site also contains some customer success stories that are accompanied by impressive-looking before and after pictures, but in all cases diet and exercise were involved and (rather worryingly) customers were paid for their testimonials.

Independent reviews are mixed and, at best, indicate a fair to middling product.

A typical one star review reads:

[plain]“It did not help me to loose weight, It did not curb my appetite. It did not help me at all.”[/plain]

And a more positive response:

[plain]“So far so good, been a few days but can definitely tell the difference. it controls your appetite. Very good.”[/plain]

Side Effects & Health Issues

The manufacturers don’t mention any side effects, but caffeine can cause side effect that may include headaches, jitters, and nausea. Yohimbe can cause side effects of a more extreme nature so this blend is not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers or anyone who has any health issues or concerns.

Blend Variations

What began as a single product has since become a range of six products.

  • Original Xenadrine
  • Caffeine Free Xenadrine
  • Xenadrine Drink Mix
  • Xenadrine XT
  • Xenadrine Gummies
  • Xenadrine Bonus Pack

Although the five additions to the range share some similar ingredients differences between the formulations can be significant. Xenadrine Caffeine free contains no caffeine at all, but Xenadrine XT (the extreme version) is marketed more towards bodybuilding enthusiasts, and those of a more athletic nature, so the blend contains an increased amount of caffeine to provide extra energy.

The “Sweet & Tasty Fruit Blast Gummies” are a cute addition to the range, but the Bonus pack is by far the most interesting option because it contains three of the best weight loss ingredients available today—garcinia cambogia, green coffee bean extract, and raspberry ketone.

Purchasing Options

Customers in the US should be able to purchase Xenadrine from their local Walmart store. Customers elsewhere in the world will probably have to buy online, but that should not be a problem because the entire Xenadrine range is available from several suppliers including DrugStore.com, theVitaminShoppe, and Amazon.

The Bottom Line

As a weight loss product Xenadrine fails to impress. Independent feedback suggests some customers have achieved a certain degree of success, but such successes may be more attributable to sensible eating and exercise rather than to use of the capsules.

The Bonus Pack may have more potential as a weight loss provider, due to the presence of garcinia cambogia, green coffee bean extract, and raspberry ketone, but the lack of inclusion rates makes it impossible to predict whether their presence can breathe enough life into such a lackluster main blend.  Xenadrine is certainly not the worst weight loss supplement on the market, but neither is it the best. Better options are available.
