What is GLUCOsmart and How Does it Work?
Content
GLUCOsmart is not a weight management product in the traditional sense. It is a health and wellness supplement designed to offer several benefits, one of which is weight loss.
The formulation contains only one active ingredient, a proprietary blend called Chirositol.
According to the product information on Lorna Vanderhaeghe’s website, researchers at the Virginia Medical School have conducted extensive studies (30+) that show Chirositol can be effective for treating insulin-resistant conditions including metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, issues related to excess androgen (male hormone), and weight gain. This certainly sounds interesting, but no links or other supportive evidence is provided.
It is also worth noting that, although a relationship between insulin resistance and abdominal fat exists, not everyone who gains weight does so because they have become insulin resistant, so people who take GLUCOsmart for weight loss purposes need to be aware they may be trying to treat a problem they do not have.
Changes in insulin levels can also result in elevated male hormone levels, including testosterone, and this is indeed the reason why some women start growing facial hair.
According to an article published by New Hope Network, the company that developed Chirositol (Cyvex Nutrition) conducted a study that showed the ingredient could reduce glucose levels in diabetic rats. The data showed the rats had lost body fat as well, but humans may not respond to the ingredient in the same way as rats. The study was conducted in 2010. At the time of this review (2016) we were unable to find much further information about the ingredient and the Cyvex Nutrition website had been removed from the web.
Chirositol is also credited with the ability to stimulate the release of extra serotonin. In theory this should improve the mood, but as far as we can see Chirositol is a ridiculously under researched ingredient and the fact that it has not become popular with main stream supplement manufacturers is probably not without good reason.
Key Ingredients
Each capsule contains 600mg of Chirositol.
GLUCOsmart Customer Feedback
A few typical comments left by customers read:
Side Effects & Health Issues
The prospect of side effects is not mentioned on the manufacturer’s website. The online stores that stock the product are equally lacking in information. Bearing in mind the lack of information about Chirositol we feel it would be wise for all potential users to play it safe and seek the advice of a health-care practitioner prior to using GLUCOsmart or any other product that contains the ingredient.
Purchasing Options & Considerations
GLUCOsmart can be purchased via many Canadian Online stores including Vita Mart, Healthy Planet, and VitaSave.ca. Each bottle provides 30 capsules and usually costs around $50. Customers who are the UK and Ireland or indeed the rest of the world may have difficulty buying.
Guarantee
There does not appear to be a money back guarantee.
The Bottom Line
As a health and wellness supplement for women, GLUCOsmart may have something to offer and customer reviews affirm this fact. It may also help some people to lose weight, but users are likely to be unsuccessful in this regard if their weight gain was not due to insulin resistance. GLUCOsmart is also an expensive product and people taking two capsules per day will have a total spend of around $100 per month. That’s quite a lot of money for a product that relies on a largely unproven ingredient. Especially when there is no money back guarantee. GLUCOsmart is not totally without out promise, but many competing products promise so much more.
